JULIE MAURER

Julie is 39 years old.  She's married to her wonderful husband Tim and has a son - Chris (19); Step Son - Nick (21), and two daughters - Angela (18) and Heather (12).  Julie is a USAF Retired MSgt and now works as a contractor on HAFB in munitions.  Julie's hometown is Ashton, Idaho.

 

Here are some facts about Julie when asked about running:

Years Running:  2

 

Weekly Mileage:  40-50 miles

 

Favorite Race distance or race:  Marathon, Ogden Marathon

 

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: 

M   5K - 22:40; 10K - 47:00; ½ Mara - 1:46:00; Marathon - 3:42:00; have not done an Ultra .yet!

M   Proudest running accomplishment:  2005 Salt Lake Marathon.my first marathon!

 

Favorite training run:  Any trail or road out on Antelope Island

 

Why run - (motivation, inspiration):  Running helps me to work through my problems, organize my thoughts and keeps my life on track.

 

Goals: Run an ultra-marathon next year, run marathons in all 50 states and eventually run the Great Wall of China Marathon.just a few of my many dreams and goals.

 

Favorite music to run to:  Boston, Journey, Survivor, Nickelback, Staind.mostly 70's - 80's rock with a little bit of the new stuff mixed in.

 

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.):  Brooks & Asics are my favorite shoes.  I love my MP3 player and my Garmin.keeps me on track!

 

Best advice you've been given as a runner:  Don't start out too fast.very good advice if you can follow it!

 

Best motivational quote:  "Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another"

 

Your role model: My life role models are my Parents.  They taught me how to work hard and never give up.no matter what!  They also instilled in me to trust in the Lord and to always be honest and trustworthy.  My running role model is my husband, Tim.  Even though he is so much faster and a much better runner than me; he still runs with me, waits for me and always encourages me to do my best!

 

Favorite food:  Anything sweet and with lots of sugar!  Did I also mention that I have to run to keep from weighing 300 pounds .

 

Hobbies or interests other than running:  Biking, gardening, reading and spending time with my family.

Anything else the world might want to know about you:  I am from the "Seed Potato Capital of the World!"  I grew up on a farm and was lucky enough to be able to see the Grand Tetons every day.God's Country!!

 

 

TIM MAURER 

Tim is 46 years old.  He's married to Julie and has one son Nick, Step sons Chad, Bryan, Wayne and Chris and Step Daughters Angela and Heather.  Occupation:  Civil Service, US Air Force (Retired Ammo CMSgt).  Tim's Hometown is Seymour, Indiana.

 

Here are some facts about Tim when asked about running:

 

Years running: As far back as I can remember, but hard-core for 15 years.

 

Weekly mileage:  40 to 50 miles

 

Favorite race distance or race:  St. George marathon.

 

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment:

-         5K:  19:53 min

-         10K:  41:36 min

-         ½ Marathon:  1:29:26

-         Marathon:  3:06:01

-         Ultra:  Not yet . but coming soon!

-         Proudest running accomplishment:  Finishing my first marathon in Paris, France, in April, 2001 . with only rookie experience to get me through it.

 

Favorite training run:  Trail Running on Antelope Island . with Julie.

 

Why run - (motivation, inspiration):  Running clears my mind of all the clutter of the daily grind and gives me a chance to reflect on my life.

 

Goals:  To PR my annual Utah Marathons in 2007 and run St. George in under 3 hours.

 

Favorite music to run to:  The sounds of nature!  Nothing like hearing a very large buffalo snorting across the road as you run by.

 

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.):  Asics 2110s on the feet, my North Face vest for the core, and my little black ear protectors . which I've lost twice during long runs and found on the return trip.  J

 

Best advice you've been given as a runner:  It's all about time on your feet.

 

Best motivational quote:  "It's not how fast or how far you run that matters . it's what running does for you . it's how running makes you feel."

 

Your role model:  Mom and Dad.  Mom taught me how to be kind to people while Dad taught me how to fix things and do the job right the first time.  I try never to do anything that would bring shame or embarrassment to either of them!

 

Favorite food:  Fried Chicken with fried potatoes . yeah, I know.  J

 

Hobbies or interests other than running:  What?  You mean there's something besides RUNNING?  Ok, I like to tinker with things . try to fix broken stuff or make things better than they are now.

 

Anything else the world might want to know about you:  I'm a Navy Brat, a Hoosier, and proud of both!  I raised and showed Belgian Draft Horses as a kid in Southern Indiana.  J
