Stefanie Talley

Stefanie is 33 years old and currently resides in Layton.  She is married to Corbin Talley; they met while running on the Weber State track team.  2 kids- Ashlyn (4 yrs) and Samantha (1 ½ years).  Stefanie is a Registered Nurse working in the Same Day Surgery at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake.  Stefanie grew up on the east side of Salt Lake City and went to Skyline High School.

Here are a few facts when we asked Stefanie about running:

Years running: 9 years initially (high school through college);  took a few years (or more) off, then started running seriously again just after we adopted our first child in 2006.  I ran for a year and unexpectedly got pregnant (but of course we didn't mind!).  Started running again after birth of 2nd child (2008) and I've been running & training pretty hard now for the past year and a half.

Weekly mileage:  45-55 miles

Favorite race distance or race:  Use to LOVE the mile/1500 in college.. but that "short" distance is quite painful now.  I'd have to say I am loving the half marathon distance more and more (even though I've only done 3 half marathons).

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: College PRs:  mile- 4:57;  3000 meters- 9:39.  Post college PR's:  5K-18:00,  10K (Deseret News) -35:41,  ½ marathon- 1:20:14,  St George Marathon (I've only done one marathon so far)- 2:51:35.

Favorite training run:  Trails.  I spend a lot of time training on a treadmill, esp during the school year when my husband isn't home until dark, so when I get the chance to go outside my favorite runs are up on the trails.  I really like running the Bonneville shoreline trail in Kaysville or the trails behind Weber State University.

Why run - (motivation, inspiration):  Gives me a break (mentally & physically) from the mundane daily routine (kids, house work, etc).  I've always enjoyed pushing my body to its limits and being able to accomplish something that is hard makes me feel good about myself.  I've also recently discovered that if you run fast enough in some races they give you money!

Goals:  Win a marathon;  Run sub- 2:50 at St George this year;  Place top 3 in the Utah Road Racing Circuit this year;  Run sub- 1:20 in a ½ marathon.

Favorite music to run to:  Anything with a good beat.  I have a lot of different music on my ipod (Switchfoot, Dashboard Confessional, Linkin Park, U2, Snow Patrol).  I can't run without music (I don't like to listen to myself breathe or hear my feet pounding the ground). I always wear my ipod for training runs, intervals & races.

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.):  Adidas shoes,  Brooks socks, any kind of clothing as long as it is comfortable (but I really like having running shorts with zip pockets in the back for carrying gu.)

Best advice you've been given as a runner:  "Don't think too much, just run." That's advice I give to myself!

Your role model:  My husband, Corbin Talley. He is an amazing runner, successful coach and a genuine lover of the sport.  He knows more about running than anyone else I know.  When I come home from a distance run or from an interval workout and tell him my times- within 2 seconds he can tell me my pace per mile.  His excitement and passion for running (whether it's for his own running or the running success of others) are constant examples to me of why I love doing this.

Favorite food:  Breads, pastas and fruits.  My all time favorite meal is parmesan-crusted halibut from McGraths.

Hobbies or interests other than running:  Being a mom (sounds corny but it's true),  photography & scrapbooking, outdoor activities, spending time with family.

Anything else the world might want to know about you:  Couldn't think of anything-  sorry!  Mostly I'm pretty boring J
