Quintin Barney
Quintin is 52, single and a father of 2 grown children, and 1 beautiful granddaughter. Quentin's hometown is Salt Lake City. Quintin works Aircraft subassembly.
Here are a few facts when we asked Quintin about his running career:
Years running: 8
Weekly mileage: 30 to 60...depending on the Saturday run.
Favorite race distance or race: 100...it's the new 26.2. Favorite races are Ogden Valley 50, Wasatch 100, and BSTM.
PR's - (5K, 10K, ½ mara, ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: 19:2, 42.40, 1:28:12, 3:10:14, 8:42 at 50m, and 29:28 at 100m.
Favorite training run: An 18 miler out the front door that takes me up Millcreek Canyon to the Deso trail, up to Neff's pass, down Neff's to home.
Why run - (motivation, inspiration): A midlife crisis at 44, that had me commit to 50 marathons by age 50. I made it with a month to spare, but half way through had changed my focus to trail ultras. That goal accomplished, but not even close to hangin em up.
Goals: A big 2012. On the table is Buffalo 100, Western States 100, and Leadville 100. We'll see about 3 others...like Wasatch (come on lottery), Bear, Slickrock or Javelina (gotta correct that DNF). Naturally all the customary standards too, like BSTM, Grandeur Peak fun run, Squaw Peak, the Millcreek Night Run 50K, and the OV50.
Favorite music to run to: Cake, Jack White, Modest Mouse, and the obligatory Floyd. Lately however, Jack White has really been hogging the ear buds.
Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.): Brooks Cascadia
Best advice you've been given as a runner: Eat, eat, eat! Bonk is not your friend.
Best motivational quote: "You're tougher than you think you are, you can do more than you
think you can". Ken Chlober
Your role model: Herman Buhl
Favorite food: Pizza...gotta be New York style.
Hobbies or interests other than running: not much anymore...though every once in a while I have vague memories that I used to be a climber. Weird.
Anything else the world might want to know about you: I have a great group of running friends...can't wait to see you on the trail Kara, Scotty, Jeff, Melanie, Marilynn, Boyd, Debbie, JoAnn, and Cindy!
