ST. GEORGE AND OCTOBER'S RUNNER SPOTLIGHT |
 |
Hello,
St. George weekend has come and gone; if you went down and ran the marathon we hope you had a great race. It was a memorable weekend for us. The city of St. George stages a fun and efficient event; packet pick-up was organized, the volunteers were very friendly, the bus ride to the start line was short thanks to our driver. The starting line had an exciting vibe, it was really cool to see all the familiar faces waiting to get into a portable rest room -- word of advice, never shake hands with anybody at the start of a marathon. It got hot, but it was a fun day. The only thing the St. George Marathon needs is Ogden CanyonJ Alicia Kirkman has run down Ogden Canyon many times during the Ogden half-marathon, but St. George was her first marathon -- she did great too clocking in at 4:17, she was all smiles at the finish line even with one nasty blister. Alicia is a regular at just about all the local races, but you might recognize her from the IHC billboard off highway 89 just south of Weber Canyon. Her picture has since been changed, but it was up for a long time. She's famous; she helped put IHC on the map with that billboard. If you recall seeing the billboard, Alicia owes you ice cream. We'll keep the list of those of you owed and pass in onto her. Be warned not to demand payment in person; Alicia has played hockey since she was a kid (ask Shane about the poor boy she beat-up), she makes her own soap (remember Tyler Derden in Fight Club) and she's on an indoor soccer team (other than ice and sticks, indoor soccer and hockey are essentially the same brutal sports). All jokes aside, Alicia has a lot of fun as a runner and she's a great friend to the Striders family. She's also our October Runner Spotlight; you can read all about her at www.stridersrunning.com |
