Melisa Harrison

Melisa is 40 years old and is from Ogden.  She was a physical therapist in her first life and now a mother of three:  Cooper (7), Bridger (6) and Reagan (1).

Here are a few facts about Melisa:

Years running:  28

Weekly mileage:  All over the map.  Anywhere from 0-30 miles a week.  Summer is always a lot easier to get out.

Favorite race distance or race:  Marathon but now due to time the 1/2 is a lot more reasonable and less stressful on my body.

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment:  Last Fall I ran my PR in the St. George marathon - 6 months after having a baby and months before turning 40.  I'm afraid now it is all downhill from here.

Favorite Training run:  Running down the Old Snowbasin Rd.  No traffic and beautiful views with fresh mountain air.

Why run - (motivation, inspiration):  To relax and recharge which makes me a better mother and spouse.

Goals: Maintain fitness and enjoy quality time with friends.

Favorite music to run to:  I'm still a purist but it is getting a little lonely out there with everyone using their IPoD's.  No one talks or even says hello - kind of sad.  There is a lot of friendships made out there when things get tough.

Best advice you've been given as a runner:  When you start breaking down or become injured, back off immediately and don't worry about the loss of training.  Taking care of injuries early can avoid long, lengthy recoveries down the road.

Your role model:  My Dad, he is still running sub 4:00 marathons at age 66.  We have run together almost 30 years during which I've received a lot of great fatherly advice.

Favorite food: Diet Coke is my "favorite" food and vice.

Hobbies or interests other than running:  Alpine skiing, biking, fishing and mostly hanging with my family.
