JUNE RUNNER SPOTLIGHT - BRIAN GARLOCK
spacer (1K)

Hello,

Its official, Ironman has come to Utah with 1,637 finishes last month in St. George.  Ironman St. George is said to be the toughest course on the triathlon circuit -- even the swim is uphill.  One of the top Utah finishers at St. George was Brian Garlock; finishing in 12:54:52 (519th overall).  We called Brian "Ironman" prior to St. George with finishes at Coeur d'Alene in 2006 (12:55) and 2007 (12:24).  While training for St. George he was hit by vehicles two separate times while on his bike and tore a calf muscle while playing soccer.  He's a tough piece of jerky; he literally froze his butt off and was hypothermic one year at LOTOJA but was still able to finish.  He makes it interesting; go read his June Runner Spotlight and his XTERRA experience a few years ago.  Brian's ran a few marathons and half-marathons but he seems to prefer the epic battle of the Ironman and now he's eyeballing the Wasatch 100.  Brian is great for the community; he and his friend (Danny Boy) kept the BAIRGUTSMAN alive after the race director passed away in 2007.  Only a handful of people have the bandwidth to pull-off a mountain race like the Gutsman; so we're lucky Brian was up for the job.  It's Brian's foundation NO MORE VICTIMS that's the beneficiary of our Memorial Day event.  We're happy to announce we raised a couple thousand dollars for the charity; Brian can make that money go a long way towards helping children who are victims of sexual abuse.  We're fortunate to know Brian and lucky to call him a friend.  Go read all about Brian at www.stridersrunning.com

Course Description:  The course will head up the Ben Lomond Trail connecting into the Skyline Trail at the "saddle" below Ben Lomond Peak. This is where water station #1 will be. From there it will continue toward the parking lot at the top of the North Ogden Divide, where water station #2 and first aid will be located. From the parking lot you will again turn upwards and climb the Southern Skyline trail. Water station #3 will be located around half way between the Divide and "Windsurfer Beach" where water station #4 and first aid will be located. From "Windsurfer Beach" you will follow the Pineview trail to the North Arm trail and finish at Eden Park.
