Summer is here; finally! Well, maybe. I guess we could call it mid-spring at least. Either way, the weather is better; the sun is out and we're looking forward to some good running this season. All we have to do now is survive the melt-off. I hear Snowbasin reopened to skiing on the weekends; unbelievable.

SPOTLIGHT RUNNER
We're very excited to introduce our June Spotlight Runner; William Sneddon. Bill took up running at age 41 and 30 years later he's still cranking out some nice miles. All winter long Bill trains by running up and down Old Snowbasin road. An average year for Bill consists of all five races in the Winter Racing Circuit, the Antelope Island Buffalo Run 25K, the Salt Lake, Ogden and St. George marathons and the BAIRGUTSMAN. I don't think there's a nicer more sincere man than Bill; he's always looking out for other people. He's been known to bring coffee and lights to volunteers during the dark and cold morning hours of packet pick-up (Kristin thanks him!). He's a very generous and charitable person too; we're all very fortunate to have him in our little running community. I can only imagine the many runners who have been inspired by Bill. He's a great ambassador for STRIDERS and an amazing friend. You can read about Bill at www.stridersrunning.com

Congratulations to all the runners who competed in the Ogden Marathon a few weeks ago. How about the weather we had that day huh? It was amazing. Can't wait to run it again next year; it's sure to sell out early again; so be sure to jump in quick when registration opens this fall - www.ogdenmarathon.com

MEMORIAL DAY
The weather was brutal this Memorial Day; it rained all day leading up to the race and into the night. We woke up to a flooded course, more rain and even a hint of snow. Syracuse PD re-routed our course for us and we ended up having a great race. A big THANK You to the Police, we couldn't have done it without them. Over 300 die-hard runners and a couple hundred kids showed up to run; many even had to clear some snow to get to the race. It was an organized disaster but with all the support from friends, family and all the runners, we we're able to walk away with some money for the NO MORE VICTIMS foundation. Thank You so much to everybody who helped turn a potential bad day into a very memorable good day.

So, if you weren't able to make the race on Memorial Day but still want to support the No More Victims foundation, we have T-shirts for sale at Striders with the proceeds going to No More Victims.

18 HOURS OF OGDEN
For a new take on relay running, check out the 18 Hours of Ogden race, August 12th & 13th. One location, one start time, one end time, one loop, 100% trail running, no cars, no traffic and no stress. www.r-scape.com

GERALD ANDERSON MEMORIAL 5K
The Gerald Anderson Memorial 5K is scheduled for this Saturday, June 11th in Morgan at the RecPlex behind Morgan High School. This is the fastest, most fabulous and most competitive 5K in Utah. Don't miss is. Registration is open at www.strideracing.com and at STRIDERS. The shirts are AWESOME this year too; much better than any shirt you'll get in Utah County that day

Northern Utah Trail Series (NUTS) www.northernutahtrailseries.com - due to a mudslide that has made a mess out of Wolf Mountain, the NUTS race scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. The next NUTS race in the series is the 2nd annual FULLY NUTS TRAIL ½ MARATHON on July 16th. Check the website for details. Registration forms are at Striders or online at www.ultrasignup.com

Farmington Festival Days 5K, 10K & Half-Marathon - Race is on July 9th at 6:30am. Registration closes July 7th at midnight so register now at www.farmingtonfestivaldays.com The event is limited to 1000 runners total and it's filling up fast. The breakfast and parade after the race is amazing; you don't want to miss this one.

MORGAN VALLEY MARATHON
Come make your mark in the Inaugural Morgan Valley Marathon, Half Marathon or 5K on Saturday July 30th 2011! This is the one you've been waiting for! Located in the mountains just 20 miles out of Ogden up Weber Canyon (I-84).

The course loops through the beautiful Morgan Valley; beginning and ending at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. MVM has everything you want in a race: beautiful scenery, a gentle (not too hilly) course, happy- helpful volunteers, great prizes and the most awesome schwag bag ever! Not to mention the cool finishers medal and tech shirt! Don't miss out on this one! For more information and to register visit www.morganmarathon.com

BAIRGUTSMAN
Registration for the BAIRGUTSMAN is open and filling up fast. The GUTSMAN is a classic, good ?ol boy trail race. Well, "trail" is probably not an accurate description unless you say "trail of blood" or "a tear left its trail on his cheek as he walked draggingly up the mountain." The GUTSMAN is a gut-check for any athlete; if you want to look tough then get the neck tattoo or wear the Tapout t-shirt from the Buckle, but if you want to BE tough then this is your event. Even the Spartans wouldn't know what to think of Crazy Bob. Registration forms are available at www.stridersrunning.com; you can also register at STRIDERS or online at www.strideracing.com The day is August 6th.

Hurt In the Dirt - August 20th. Check it out at www.goalfoundation.com

Skyline Mountain Marathon & ½ Marathon - August 20th. This is a dream course for mountain runners; 200 runner limit both races combined. Run up to Ben Lomond, run down to North Ogden divide then run up to Lewis Peak hen run down to Ogden Valley into Eden - bring an extra set of legs and a spare stomach. http://skylinemarathon.com/

The Huntsville ½ Marathon & 5K is scheduled Labor Day weekend; Saturday, September 3rd. This race is well over 30 years old and one of the oldest road races in Utah. It's also one of the most scenic. If you got into the St. George marathon, this is a great tune-up race. The Huntsville race is also a fundraiser for the Weber State Track alliance. So, let's get all the runners, joggers and walkers who bleed purple up to Huntsville this Labor Day weekend. Look for registration to open this month at STRIDERS.

STRIDERS is now renting wetsuits - $40 for the weekend. No reservations; first come first serve. Come in for details.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
