Hello,
Many runners start their careers with a local fun run 5K or something really easy like a 24 hour road relay with 12 friends, 2 vans, 12 reflective vests, 2 butt lights, no course aid, no pasta dinner, a t-shirt a finishers medal and a partridge in a pear tree; it's expensive, it's a great time with friends and it drives screen shops crazy only printing 12 shirts at a time. It's more of a slumber party on wheels and a 200 mile traffic jam. Anyway, Aric Manning started his running career with races like the Buffalo Run, Wasatch 100, Speedgoat 50K and Squaw Peak 50. He's bitten off a lot in the 4 years he's been running but managed to get them all down. On top of all that, he's co-founded and is the race director for the Northern Utah Trail Series. Be sure to check it out -- http://www.northernutahtrailseries.com/ No vests, no lights, no vans, no team shirts, no gas money, no drivers, no Facebook accounts, you're not required to provide volunteers and shirts and shoes are optional (please wear pants, shorts, skorts, a kilt, or at least a loin cloth). You do have to run hard the whole time to cover the distance. Thanks Aric; he's our July Runner Spotlight. Go read all about him at www.stridersrunning.com
PS -- Relax, we've been chasing down reflective vests, butt lights and team outfits for a month. I'm just having a little fun. Pre-order you vests and lights todayJ

HURT IN THE DIRT: Not exactly sure what this is but it sounds cool and it's produced by the same people who bring us the Ogden Marathon. More information at http://www.goalfoundation.com/ Here's what they have to say on their website:
Get Out and Live invites you to Hurt in the Dirt, July 31, 2010 at Ogden's historic Fort Buenaventura. This twilight off-road duathlon consists of a twisting run course through the trees, over logs and through water of the Weber River bottoms and a spaghetti bowl mountain bike course through the sand, mud and dirt that surround the fort.
When the sun has finally set and the carnage has been swept from the course, you'll join spectators and exhibitors on the grassy expanse in the center of the fort for some liquid recovery from Roosters Brewing Company and a bit of O-town's best live music.
Space is limited to 40 solo slots and 120 two-person teams. Register now to secure your spot!
For a very long time there have been efforts to stage a mountain race in North Ogden by Ben Lomond. Well, persistency has brought us the SKYLINE MOUNTAIN MARATHON on August 21st. Here's the course description from http://www.skylinemarathon.com/ :
Course Description: The course will head up the Ben Lomond Trail connecting into the Skyline Trail at the "saddle" below Ben Lomond Peak. This is where water station #1 will be. From there it will continue toward the parking lot at the top of the North Ogden Divide, where water station #2 and first aid will be located. From the parking lot you will again turn upwards and climb the Southern Skyline trail. Water station #3 will be located around half way between the Divide and "Windsufer Beach" where water station #4 and first aid will be located. From "Windsurfer Beach" you will follow the Pineview trail to the North Arm trail and finish at Eden Park.

THE DIRTY DASH AT SOLDIER HOLLOW: September 25, 2010. 10k Obstacle Course http://www.thedirtydash.com/
We're not sure what's going to happen with the Striders7 trail race. XTERRA is coming into town with their triathlon and Xduro race the same day, September 25th. If we can make it fit with Mountain to Metro and Xterra where we're not staging the race in the heat of the day then we'll consider it. Stay tuned, we'll see what happens.
Don't forget the Deseret News Marathon & 10K on July 24th http://www.deseretnews.com/run/ We really aren't involved with the race but we love it anyway.
Thanks,
John & Kristin
