JANUARY RUNNER SPOTLIGHT |
Hello,
We hope everybody had a great Holiday (we like to call it Christmas) and a Happy New Year. This time of year we see a few customers who have great intentions of getting back in shape; they come in and get geared up but life gets in the way or the bed is too comfortable in the morning and old habits are sometimes hard to break. When I first met Richard Boud, I knew he had it him but I've seen this play before, so I would be lying if I said I didn't have my doubts. Richard came and went over the next few years; sometimes looking better and one time not so much, but this past October when he came in to register for the Ogden Valley 50, he looked unbelievably fit. Wow! I couldn't believe it; he looked like a middle weight champ. Sometimes when people lose weight they look like refugee survivors, but Richard looked like he had been kicking ass in the Army or something. He tells me he just ran a 3:18 St. George Marathon and now wants to run 50 miles. Race day comes and he busts out an 8:53 50 mile run (if you don't know, the OV50 is more like the OV51). Who runs a sub-9 hour 50 miler for the first time at 53 years old? I see a lot of strong runners, but what Richard did (or doing) is very impressive. I can't wait to see what he does next. Richard is our January Runner Spotlight; check him out at www.stridersrunning.com |

OGDEN MARATHON |
Congratulations to Ogden City, Ogden Valley and the GOAL Foundation for what they've done to the Ogden Marathon. It's one on the premiere running events in the country; it was ranked 9th overall in a recent Runner's World magazine poll. We think it should be ranked numero uno. Oh well, maybe next year. So, if you haven't heard, the Ogden Marathon and Half Marathon are completely sold out. There's not a waiting list, but there are VIP spots left; VIP registrations are tax deductible donations and the accommodations are worth every penny. We love everybody but we can't get you into the marathon. Registration for the 2011 Ogden Marathon will open in October 2010 on a first come first serve basis; it will most definitely sell out again before year end. The marathon is always looking for volunteers. If interested visit www.goalfoundation.com or www.ogdenmarathon.com Get Out And Live!!!

BUFFALO RUN |
If you missed out on the Ogden Marathon, the Antelope Island Buffalo Run is a great alternative. You have three distances to choose from -- 25K, 50K and 50 miles. All the registration info is at www.buffalorun.org The race doesn't have a cap but you only have until mid-February to register. The next training run is scheduled for February 13th at 8am. The group will meet at the main gate to Antelope Island at 8am and carpool onto the Island. Carpooling will help mitigate the $9 park entrance fee. This time we'll go to the Mountain View trailhead and run south to the ranch and back. This is a fairly flat and very runnable trail (except for last year when there was 6" of snow on the ground and snowing hard). If you want to cut this one short, turn around at the lower Frary parking lot, This will get you about 11-12 miles. Distance -- 22.8 miles |

2010 WINTER RACING CIRCUIT |
The 2010 Winter Racing Circuit kicks off on February 6th with the 5K at Weber State University. If you haven't been on the 5K or 10K courses before, you'll have an opportunity to practice on them on February 16th at 8:00am, meeting at the Dee Events Center. I'll have both courses marked, so you can run either course or both. Bring your own water and provisions; I don't know who but somebody keeps stealing my tables, water jugs and coolers, so I'm not putting anything out there until race day. In the meantime, Cory Johnson at Old School Body Shop is welding together iron chains and anchors for everything.
We want to thank our sponsors of the 2010 WRC:
Calton-Harrison Clinic
Intermountain Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation
Roosters
The Red Moose Lodge
Without their support there's no way the Winter Racing Circuit would happen |
