Last year we were able to raise a nice chunk of change for our favorite children's charity, NO MORE VICTIMS with the Memorial Day Classic Half-Marathon, 5K & Kids Mile.  We'll be back at it again in 2011 on Memorial Day, May 30th for a re-run of a very important event for us.  Registration is now open at Striders or www.stridersrunning.com

Runner Spotlight - Brian Nelson
spacer (1K)

Hello and Happy New Year!  We hope everybody is having a great 2011.  It's cold, smoggy and miserable outside now, but just around the corner are many long distance endurance events, so now is the best time to get ready.  This time last year Brian Nelson was spending a lot of time in the pool, on his bike trainer and in his running shoes as he prepared for the inaugural St. George Ironman.  In the one year history of Ironman STG, it has already established itself as the toughest Ironman course on the planet.  Brian killed the course last year with a total time of 11:03 and a 3:43 split in the marathon.  Brian also set personal records at Ironman Canada last year finishing in a total tome of 10:13 with a 3:36 marathon split in the marathon -- amazing!  Brian can rocket on that bike too, his average speed on the bike at St George was 19mph and it was all uphill.  Brian is a great athlete, and at 41 years old he has his best still to come.  The best thing about Brian is his reputation as a husband, father and friend.  We get emails from teachers at the school his kids go to telling us what a great and charitable man he is.  We're definitely glad to know him and can't wait to see what he does next.  Brian is our January Runner Spotlight; you can read all about him at www.stridersrunning.com

TRAINING RUN AND WINTER RACING CIRCUIT
spacer (1K)

This Saturday, January 15th at 8:00am at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, we'll be organizing a FREE Winter Racing Circuit Training run.  We'll have both the 5K & 10K courses set-up, so you can run either course or both and help yourself get ready for the 2011 WRC beginning on February 5th.  We'll start the run on the 5K course on the west side of the Dee Events Center.  The courses will be marked with cones and arrows so you don't get lost, but you'll need to bring your own water and provisions if you need it.  Bathrooms will be available the Ogden Ice Sheet just west of the Dee Center.

For questions about the training run please contact us at STRIDERS. Again, it's FREE so there's no need to register.  Just show up and have fun if you want to run.

As a reminder here are the dates for the WRC:
February 5th -- 5K, 8am Dee Events Center
February 19th -- 19K, 8am Dee Events Center
March 12th -- 10mile, 8am Dee Events Center
April 2nd -- Half-marathon, 8am Red Moose Lodge
April 23rd -- 30K, 7:30am Red Moose Lodge

Registration for the 2011 WRC is available on Active.com via www.stridersrunning.com or in person at STRIDERS.  If you're registered for the WRC, you'll receive an email in the next couple of weeks with details for packet pick-up for the 5K race in February.

The Winter Racing Circuit is the official training series for the Ogden Marathon on May 21st, 2011 -- wwwogdenmarathon.com.  It's a great way to train and get ready for one of the best marathon courses on the planet.

The WRC would not happen without the support of some great people at these fine establishments, Thank You:

Intermountain Sports Medicine Clinic (McKay Dee Hospital)
Calton-Harrison Clinic (McKay Dee Hospital)
The Red Moose Lodge
Roosters Restaurant & Brewery
Intermountain T-Shirt

Supporters of the WRC also include Weber State University, Ogden City, Weber County, UDOT and the GOAL Foundation.  Here's to a good 2011 race season, let's pray for good weather.

Let's see if we can fill the Red Moose Lodge!  Now is the best time to book your stay for the WRC Half-Marathon & 30K.   Call 801-745-6667 and ask for the special runners' rate for those two races as well for the Ogden Marathon.
