Jamie Remkes

Jamie is 51 years old and has been married to Tom (the real runner as she says) for almost 31 years.  They have three children; Travis, Ashley and Erin (all of whom have run at least one marathon) and one running super dog, named ?Gator'.  Gator hasn't run a marathon just yet, but he is in training.  Gator paces Tom at the Bear 100.  Jamie's hometown is Ogden UT and she is an Analyst for the Government.

Here are a few facts about Jamie when we asked her about running:

Years running: 20 + years.  St George was my first marathon back in 1993.

Weekly mileage: Maybe 30

Favorite race distance or race: I like the 50k trail races; they are a bit more relaxing for me.

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: Ron (brother-in-law) talked me into signing up for the Lean Horse 100 this year and I actually finished.  I was worried I wasn't going to make it until only a few miles before the finish, so I'm pretty happy that the stars all aligned.

Favorite training run: I'm not sure I really have a favorite. I enjoy running almost anywhere as long as I'm with family and friends.

Why run - (motivation, inspiration): I'm just not into crafts etc. and I really want to live a long healthy life and I enjoy the outdoors.

For me, the best part of running is the relationships.  I love getting to know and connecting with people.  When you are pushing your limits, experiencing hours of pain, cold/heat, dehydration (where no subject is ?off limits') you get to know people on a much different level.  To have someone there that you trust and enjoy being with that you can share those moments with is makes it all worthwhile.

Goals: To be healthy and spend quality time with family and friends.

Favorite music to run to: I like all kinds of music, so my IPOD has a bit of everything, even opera.

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.): I love the Hoka's.  I injured my foot several years ago, and without them I wouldn't be running at all.

Best advice you've been given as a runner: Tom always tells me "You're going to have bad sections, so just do the best you can and keep moving."

Best motivational quote:

    • The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep. (By Robert Frost)

    • If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger.

      Your role model: Dave Ramsey

Favorite food: I like almost everything.

Hobbies or interests other than running: I like yoga and swimming.  Finally, after about 10 years, I'm starting to like working out at the gym.  I also really enjoy reading and going to the movies.
