CORY T. JOHNSON

Cory is 44 years old from Ogden, UT and married to Kati who he says "is a very good wife who supports me in the things that I do."  Cory has eight children ages 22 down to 9 years of age.  They own Old School Body shop which employs over twenty employees all of which are highly skilled technicians.  They repair for the public on an average of 140 cars per month.  They are now going on their 22nd year in business!!!!!

Here are a few facts about Cory when we asked him about his running career:

Years running: I was a sprinter in high school and rarely ran over 440 yards" because it was not fun and too hard. And after getting married I went on an adventure of family. And sixteen years later for some reason could not tie my shoes and hold my breath anymore and decided too do something about it. so I started to run walk and within a years time ran my first ultra race called the "Wasatch 100" I made it thirteen miles." which was a big let down and motivated me to try harder. And seven years later I am running on an average of four one hundred mile races a year.

Weekly mileage: I am currently putting in about sixty miles a week all of which are on the trail. It's tough to run the one hundred mile races and have your mileage over one hundred miles a week because you are in recovery mode." The mileage goes up over one hundred prior to the race season.

Favorite race distance or race: The "Hard Rock 100" in Silverton Colorado is considered to be the most challenging of ultra races in the world" this is my favorite race next to "Wasatch 100" because the diversity around every bend of trail brings something new and challenging you find out who you really are and just what you are made of during this race.

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: I hold no PR's in any short races or marathons that are worthy of even mentioning so I will not, I will leave that to the younger and tougher generations. But one accomplishment I look back on and "smile a smile" is in the year of 2007 I ran seven one hundred miles races in a year's time, along with three fifty mile races.

Favorite training run: Is when I run with my friend on any trail that is available at that time. Most marathons and fifty mile races are my training. But the most rewarding is after the race season is over I get to run the trails in the fall time with friends and family with no goals in mind other than pure enjoyment.

Why run - (motivation, inspiration): healthy life style and the beauty of the mountains and trails.

Goals: To finish both "Hard rock 100" and "Wasatch 100" ten times.

Favorite music to run to: All kinds, I have no real preference. Most times while I run I end up not running listening to music at all. For some reason it makes me ornery.

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.): My shoe of choice is the "InoV-8 Rock lite 315. I run with my shoes very loose, not tight at all. Shorts are from "Patagonia" the long haul trail runners" my socks are wool no particular name brand. Shirts are from past races.

Best advice you've been given as a runner: My friend" Marc Collman" was running with me at "western States 100" and he told me when I wanted to give up the race that "I needed to get comfortable with the uncomfortable".

Best motivational quote: "Start out fast pick it up in the middle and sprint to the end"

Your role model: Tom Remkes

Favorite food: Hog meat and Hen eggs" Pasta" and most food's

Hobbies or interests other than running: I enjoy welding on my "Metal Art" here at the shop. And using my 9000lb smoker too smoke ribs and all kinds of meat.

Anything else the world might want to know about you: This question gets way to deep" so nothing more to say.
