Hello,
We have a lot of info to pass on to you in next week's July email; but we have some news regarding the BAIRGUTSMAN that we wanted to pass along to you before the weekend:
NEWS FROM THE RACE ORGANIZERS OF THE BAIRGUTSMAN:
Farmington Canyon will open in the next couple of weeks and the BAIRGUTSMAN will take place on Saturday, August 6th as planned with NO course changes. So, if you were thinking about not running this year because you thought the course was going to be longer or modified, then you're out of luck. No excuses; if you wuss-out, you're only excuse is wussyitis.
This year all GUTSMAN finishers will get a "I SURVIVED" medal and Finisher's tech-tee. For the first time ever in BAIRGUTSMAN history; there will be overall and age/gender awards. You'll get your swag once you cross the finish line; if you're bleeding, crying, dying or throwing up; we'll get you stabilized first then get you the swag.
Registration for the BAIRGUTSMAN is open but it's filling up fast; it's over half full; or half empty; however you want to look at it. Registration is available at STRIDERS and online at www.strideracing.com You can also download a registration form at www.stridersrunning.com and mail or fax it in.
If you don't know anything about the BAIRGUTSMAN; you should sign-up anyway. It's a nice little trail run with a little bit of up-hill. Please bring your hiking sticks. The course is nicely groomed and marked so you won't get lost. All the poisonous snakes and dangerous predators have been removed from the course. There will be photographers at every mile to take your picture and plenty of spectators along the way ringing bells and telling you what a great job you're doing. There will be a big party at the finish line with live music, soda pop and cotton candy. Oh golly, it's so much fun...WAIT! I apologize, I'm confused. I'm thinking of a completely different trail race.
The BAIRGUTSMAN is hard, hot, and dusty and will most definitely kick your trash. No frills, no sugar and no balloon arch at the finish line. The GUTSMAN is a pride run staged by locals. It's not about luxury; economic impact or making cheap cable TV. It's about the challenge; CONQUER THYSELF.
August 6th, 6am at the church on Mountain Road in Fruit Heights. Ends 7 miles up Farmington Canyon. You can run home, hitch a ride or make arrangements to get picked up when you're done. I guess you can bring your sticks but if you poke somebody with them; with this crowd you'll probably be wearing those sticks, permanentlyJ
