Alicia Kirkman

Alicia is 39 but says she only feels like she's 30! She currently lives in Roy with Shane and 2 dogs Jagermeister and Nike.  Alicia is a Nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit, at Mckay Dee Hospital. Alicia was born and raised in good old Ogden, UT.

Here are a few facts about Alicia when we asked her about running:

Years running: 9

Weekly mileage: 20-40 depending on the week & sometimes I don't run at all for a few weeks, I am not what you would call a "consistant trainer" :)

Favorite race distance or race: 10k's and 1/2 Marathon's...5k's are too painful. My new favorite race is the N.U.T.S. Trail Half Marathon. I love the Strider's 7, it was my first ever trail run and it snowed that day...I loved every minute of it. My two favorite road races are the Ogden 1/2 Marathon and the Classic 10k.

PR's - (5K, 10K, ½, mara, Ultra) or proudest running accomplishment: I am not a very fast runner so I don't have any incredible PR's.  A PR for me is to set a personal goal, to finish strong, enjoy the race and be happy and grateful that I am able to run.

Favorite training run: Anywhere along the trails, which I have had to cut back on and run alot of asphalt to train for the St. George Marathon. A dear friend of mine (who only runs trails) has nicknamed me "roadie".

Why run - (motivation, inspiration): I tell everyone that I run so I can eat! The truth is that I have a really good group of friends "The Crazy Girls" that I love to run with. I will occassionally run with the boys, if I want to get my butt kicked all over the mountain, they keep me humble and motivated. (One of these days I will be able to keep up) The health benefits I recieve are just an added bonus.

Goals: To finish The St. George Marathon, it will be my first. My future goal is to run the Buffalo Run in March.

Favorite music to run to: AC/DC, Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Nickleback, Buckcherry, Wolfmother, and some of the oldies, like The Beatles. It is also nice to run "unplugged" and be able to have a conversation or just enjoy the sound of your surroundings.

Favorite running gear - (shoes, apparel, etc.):  I love my new Pearl Izumi Syncrofuel road shoes, my Nathan Watervest, and my Redline sunglasses by Smith Optics. I'm not very picky about the clothing except for a really good sportsbra.

Best advice you've been given as a runner: Always finish strong.

Best motivational quote: I have heard so many...I always like the ones about personal strengths, accomplishments and perseverance, just can't remember the entire quote to tell you. It must be my age. :)

Your role model: My parents, Joanne and Gary.

Favorite food: Anything chocolate, ice cream, cookies...see why I run! I also like Chinese and Italian.

Hobbies or interests other than running: I love to watch NHL Hockey, GO AVS!!! I also enjoy playing soccer, bike riding, and reading.

Anything else the world might want to know about you: I make my own soap and I love to bake, other than that I am pretty boring.
