Striders is independently owned and operated by John and Kristin Wojciechowski and their two children. The Wojciechowski's opened Striders in 2004 due to their love of running and the need for quality running gear in North Davis County, UT.
John and Kristin both graduated from Clearfield High School in 1991 where they both excelled in sports. John was an all-state performer in football, wrestling, and track & field, but couldn't dribble a basketball to save his life. Kristin was awesome both on the soccer field and softball diamond in addition to being an exceptional student.
After high school, Kristin enrolled at Weber State University to get her college education while John enrolled at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO to wrestle and beg for food. Knowing Kristin was the love of his life, John transferred to Weber State in 1993. They were married in June 1994 and lived happily ever after.
During the "happily ever after" part, with John riding Kristin's coat-tails, they both graduated from Weber State in 1996; Kristin with a Telecommunications and Business Degree and John with a Criminal Justice and Communications Degree.
They both took professional jobs in corporate America; Kristin as a Telecommunications Manager and John as a Safety and Security Manager. Shad joined the family in 1997. Upon his first breath, Shad urinated on his father and then snuggled up with his mother. The three of them made their home in Syracuse, UT.
In 1998 John went through the police academy and caught the running bug while training for the PT requirement. Kristin was already a fitness nut, teaching 2 aerobics classes a day at the local gym while at the same time grinding the miles out with her running shoes and on her bike. The previous year Kristin took John on a day hike through the Uintah Mountains that about did him in (along with the family dog) so it was time he shifted into high gear.
While Shad stayed home with Grandma in the summer of 2000, John and Kristin spent a week in Mexico hiking in the Sierra Madre Mountains and lounging on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta. 9 months later Jessica stormed into life much like her brother did. To celebrate her birth, Kristin rode her bike in the MS 150 and John ran the Ogden Marathon.
In late 2003, as John's career in Corporate America was about to end, "Striders" was conceived while John, Kristin, Shad and Jessica were sitting down to eat dinner. John had formal training in ergonomics, bio-mechanical analysis, and injury prevention during his years as a safety manager. The whole family had a love for running and athletics in general and there was definitely a need for a running shop in the North Davis area. The next day "Striders" was born at http://www.utah.gov/.
After many sleepless nights and countless hours of hard work from friends and family, Striders opened its doors in February 2004. John and Kristin continue to manage the store while reaching out to the running community by sponsoring many local running events and producing various training sessions. Every time you walk into Striders you're guaranteed to receive first-class service from John or Kristin and the whole Wojciechowski family.
